Thanks to everyone who attended the Hesburgh Library’s “Farewell to the Floor” event on December 10 from 4pm to 6pm. The open house event officially launched Hesburgh Library Renovation: Restoring an Icon Phase One. Visitors were invited to enjoy holiday sweets and then grab a Sharpie and scrawl their moniker or a favorite memory on a soon-to-be-removed section of the Library’s second floor.
In a way, the event reflected the tone of the renovation and our mission of “connecting people to knowledge.” Students, faculty, and staff alike converged on the shared gathering place, some paying tribute the library, its history and its treasures, others to earlier generations of Domers who had studied here before them. They were, in fact, all noting their own place in this Notre Dame legacy.
Notable guests included Provost Tom Burish, Executive Vice President John Affleck-Graves, Vice President for University Relations Lou Nanni, Vice President and Senior Associate Provost Chris Maziar, Associate Vice President for Campus Safety, Mike Seamon, and Executive Director, Alumni Association and Associate Vice President for University Relations Dolly Duffy. We also had surprise visits from the Leprechaun, Notre Dame Cheerleaders, the Gold Gang and many more!
“Thanks for the Memories,” read one indelible note, capturing the nostalgia of the moment. We captured many more fond memories soon viewable in Events. We are looking forward to creating many new memories in the years to come.
